Setting Up Roles & Permissions for Clinic & Lab Staff

Not everyone on your team should see everything. Role-based permissions give each person exactly the access they need — and give you an audit trail of who did what.

A diagnostic center or clinic runs on a mix of people: reception registering patients and taking payments, technicians processing samples and entering results, doctors reviewing and signing reports, and someone keeping an eye on the money. Giving everyone full access is a risk — to patient privacy, to your pricing, and to your cash. Role-based permissions let you match access to responsibility, so people can do their job and nothing more.

Start from the principle of least privilege

The simplest rule for access is: give each person the minimum they need to do their work. Reception needs to register patients and bill; a lab technician needs to enter results; a doctor needs to review and approve reports. When access is scoped this way, an honest mistake is contained and sensitive information stays with the people who should see it.

Build roles around real jobs

  • Reception — register patients, create invoices, take payments.
  • Lab technician — manage samples and enter results, without touching pricing or payments.
  • Doctor / pathologist — review and approve reports and write prescriptions.
  • Accounts — see payments, dues, and financial reports.

One person, more than one hat

Small centers rarely have one person per role. In SihatSuite a single staff member can hold multiple roles at once, so the owner who also does reception and accounts gets both sets of permissions under one login — without you having to invent a custom 'owner' role or hand out full admin access to everyone.

Keep an audit trail

Permissions decide what people can do; an audit trail records what they actually did. Together they give you accountability — if an invoice is cancelled or a price is changed, you can see who did it and when. That is invaluable both for resolving disputes and for building a culture where everyone knows actions are traceable.
